I first discovered Brave Soles while researching ethical sandals. I did a lot of research, and put together a post on my favorite sustainably made sandals so if you’re looking for new slip on shoes definitely check it out, they are natural, minimalistic and all ethically and sustainably made.
This is where I stumbled upon Brave Soles which has grown into this collaboration.
Wearing the Ophelia Leather Slide Sandal in Caramel.
Ethically crafted sandals from up cycled tires.
I was talking with a friend the other day about impact, how at times it feels quite difficult to make a change in a greatly uncertain world. What he told me has stuck with me and it is the point I now come back to:
We vote every day.
We vote with every purchase we make, with every product we buy and every company we choose to support. It is easy to underestimate the impact of a free economy, easy to dismiss these daily monetary choices, but the point I come back to is that they matter.
What we buy is our vote as to the world we want to create and does this not give us the power to choose a future that we want to be a part of?
This was in June when I first became aware of Black Lives Matter and I was educating myself as much as possible, here’s the post I wrote if you’re interested Changing the Structure. The conclusion I came to was that are impact is individual, be open to questioning our world and participate in our democracy as much as possible. But countries are big, systems are somewhat broken and it can be hard to believe that your individual political stance can change anything at all. But we are voting all the time, with every purchase every day.
“We are all starting something at some time or another in our lives. For some of us it’s business and for others it’s starting the journey of waking up to what is going on around us.”
-Christal Earle, Founder of Brave Soles
Supporting small businesses is how our world will change, incrementally, from the ground up. It is not the earth shaking sort of change, it is more like people holding hands. Saying we’re in this together, we can get through this together, we believe in a better world.
I hope you check the chance to check out Brave Soles. Their sandals are beautiful and joining their vision is an opportunity to be apart of a more ethical world.
